Unsure of whether to have your family portraits in our studio or outdoors?

Lion & Cub Photography has an epic warehouse studio upstairs in The Aerie at Tortuga Studios. We are also opposite Sydney Park. So it depends on the style and atmosphere you want to achieve for your family portraits.

Take a look at this short video to see behind the scenes and the edited photos that were captured in our three locations.

How do you decide whether to have your family portrait in a studio or outdoors? The decision ultimately depends on the look and feel you want to achieve with your photos and your style. It also depends on whether you are after a classic hero image to display on your wall or a series of pictures with a consistent background.

If you’re looking for a more classic, formal portrait, the professional studio with beautiful lighting is a great option. This space provides a clean and polished backdrop for your family, and the professional lighting would ensure that everyone looks their best. Being able to use light and shadow makes for a very creative and timeless portrait. You can also have several outfits and book hair and make-up. This setting will provide a clean and polished background, perfect for family portraits, newborns and younger babies. We can use various lighting techniques and shadows to create a variety of moods and styles, that have a gorgeous fine-art portrait look.

The background is a consistent colour (grey, white, or coloured), so this works for a series of images such as the Serengeti Storyboard, The Masai or the Sahara.

The daylight-filled area with the bohemian feel would be perfect if you’re looking for a more relaxed and natural vibe. This space would provide a comfortable and casual atmosphere, and the natural lighting would give your photos a soft, warm glow. Natural light is ideal for newborns and sitting babies; cushions, props, or brick walls behind our loft warehouse space look divine.

Lastly, if you want to capture your family more candidly and playfully, Sydney Park is across the road and is a great choice. The park setting provides a beautiful backdrop for your photos, and the outdoor setting would allow for more movement and interaction among family members, perfect for older children.Choose this if you love the sunset/golden light look of early morning or evening or have a large group of extended family members.

Ultimately, the choice is yours! Think about your family’s personalities and what kind of look and feel you want. Which photos do you connect with on Lion & Cub Photography’s website? The decision comes down to personal preference and the type of photos you want to create, then choose the space that best suits your needs. You may even incorporate up to two areas into your photoshoot for a diverse and dynamic set of images! This would be perfect if you would like an album as there will be plenty of pictures, and it is an excellent option for personal branding and Lioness Photography’s Boudoir portraits.
